String Trimmer Repair Near You

Gas and battery string trimmer and weed eater repair.

String trimmers — also called weed eaters, weed whackers, or line trimmers — are among the most commonly repaired handheld power equipment. Gas trimmers use two-stroke engines, which makes them lighter and higher-revving than four-stroke alternatives. The tradeoff is a more maintenance-sensitive carburetor and the requirement for pre-mixed two-stroke fuel (typically 50:1 or 40:1 ratio depending on the brand).

The most common string trimmer repairs are carburetor cleaning or rebuild ($45–$80), fuel line and primer bulb replacement ($20–$50), spark plug replacement ($10–$20), and trimmer head replacement or line replacement ($10–$30). Echo SRM trimmers and Stihl FS-series trimmers are the most commonly repaired professional-grade models; residential trimmers from Craftsman, Husqvarna, and Poulan are also widely serviced.

For battery-powered trimmers from EGO and Greenworks, service needs are simpler — trimmer head and line replacement are the main wear items. Battery packs typically last 3–5 years before significant capacity loss. Not all shops service battery trimmers; confirm with the shop before bringing in battery-powered equipment.

Storage is the primary enemy of gas string trimmers. Leaving a trimmer with fuel in the carburetor and lines through the winter creates a varnish buildup that restricts fuel flow. The fix: either run the trimmer dry before storage, or add fresh high-octane pre-mixed two-stroke fuel with stabilizer. Pre-mixed ethanol-free fuel (available at most hardware stores in small cans) is the best choice for infrequently used trimmers.
